Abstract

In recent years, there has been an increasing demand from patients seeking access to safe and effective facial rejuvenation treatments, without extreme side effects and with short recovery times. In response to this demand, the Nd: YAG laser has been developed, but studies on its effective application are still needed to further improve the technique. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the 1064 nm Nd: YAG picosecond laser with the low fluence picotoning technique for facial rejuvenation. This quasi-experimental study was conducted from May to August 2021 on 41 patients between 40 and 60 years of age, with phototype I to V according to the Fitzpatrick scale. It was carried out in a total of 6 sessions, with an interval of 15 days. The percentages of pigment reduction recorded were: left perinasobuccal area and right temple with -9.6% and on the forehead with -8.6%. The reduction in porosity in the left perinasobuccal area was -37.4%; right temple with -44.1%, and forehead with -51.1%. The reduction in texture in the perinasobuccal area was -15%, right temple with -16.4% and in the forehead with -16.2%. The level of reduction of fine lines in the left Perinasobuccal area and right temple respectively was -13.3% and in the forehead with -12.7%. There was also an increase in elasticity and collagen in the left temple with +10.5% and +12.5%, respectively. The results of this study show that picosecond 1064 nm Nd: YAG laser treatment is effective in patients aged between 40 to 60 years.
