Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the recurrence rate of Vaginal Intraepithelial Neoplasia (VAIN) in patients who were treated with laser, who were included in studies published in specialized journals. To this end, the present investigation was carried out with the systematic review of 44 articles published in different databases, of which 11 were selected. The variables studied were laser platform, laser treatment parametry, laser action power, recurrence, follow-up and type of VAIN. RESULTS: The information contained shows that 9 (81,8%) indicate the period of study, 9 (81,9%) indicate the diagnosis, 7 (63,6%) indicate the treatment, all (100%) indicate the number of cases, the type of study, the recurrence and results, and only 4 (36,4%) indicate the procedure. The results reveal that 535 (90%) of the patients underwent ablative laser and the recurrence rate is 23,3%, while 58 patients underwent excisional laser and the recurrence rate is 15,8%. It can be seen that the range of the recurrence rate is lower when ablative laser is applied. In relation to the diagnosis, 360 patients were diagnosed with VAIN in its different degrees, thus than 106 with VAIN I, 133 with VAIN II and 141 with VAIN III, which represent 29,44%, 31,29% and 39,17%. In relation to other conditions, there are 162 patients with HPV, 18 with carcinoma, 25 with intraepithelial neoplasia and 9 with cervical cancer. CONCLUSION: It can be concluded that laser treatment in patients with VAIN is pertinent, since the results indicate that in the case of the ablasion modality, the recurrence rate is low, after a short period of time.
