Abstract

Vaginal laxity, defined as the loss or decrease in tension of the wall of the vaginal canal, can affect a large number of women, preceded by childbirth, pregnancy, weight changes, and tissue aging. Loss of tone, elasticity, and firmness of the walls of the vagina can cause everything from urinary incontinence to a loss of quality of sexual life, decreasing pleasure for the woman and her partner. For this reason, this work aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the 980nm, 1470nm, and dual  (980/1470nm) diode laser in the treatment of vaginal laxity. 30 sexually active women of reproductive age were evaluated, diagnosed with different severities of vaginal laxity, and treated with three sessions per group of 10 patients with different wavelengths of the diode laser, which achieved important changes from the second session. . They were statistically significant (p<0.05) post-treatment in terms of the total resolution of vaginal gases (980nm: 50.0%, 1470nm: 50.0%; 980/1470nm: 50.0%) and absence of vaginal width (980nm: 70.0%, 1470nm: 40.0%; 980/1470nm: 90.0%), an increase in the integrity and good muscle strength of the pelvic floor, as well as an increase in sexual function of 18.7%, 29.0%, and 23.4% for those treated with 980nm, 1470nm, and 980/1470nm, respectively. In conclusion, the diode laser platform, at its different wavelengths, represents a safe, effective, and reliable alternative in the treatment of vaginal laxity and vaginal functional restoration.
